Tour Details:

We will pick you up at your hotel in Aswan; You will recognize our driver by the sign with your name in his hands. While traveling to Kom Ombo, you will get a glimpse of the landscape of Upper Egypt and the lifestyle of the people living here.

The construction of the Temple of Kom Ombo, also known as  the “Double Temple”, began in the 2nd century BC, during the reign of Ptolemy. The temple was dedicated to two different deities – the crocodile (dedicated to the god Sobek) and the falcon (dedicated to the god Haroeris). Since the gods were to be worshipped here, it was also necessary to build courts, halls, rooms and chapels in duplicate. Everything was built in perfect symmetry along the main axis. This is not at all characteristic in the construction of Egyptian temples. The walls and columns are decorated with beautiful reliefs, which the ancient Egyptians worked on until the 3rd century AD, never fully completed. In some places, drawings made at that time have been preserved.

Next, you will see an ancient nilometer to measure the water level in the Nile. Its construction was never completed, but the chapel to the Goddess of Love Hathor is very well preserved. You’ll also be able to see mummies and sarcophagi of crocodiles, sacred animals of the god Sobek, which were discovered in nearby burials.

Afterwards, you will have lunch at a local restaurant.

Temple of Edfu, this will be your second stop. It is the best-preserved of Egypt’s ancient temples, both inside and out. It was built in Ptolemaic times. Construction began in 237 AD, and lasted almost 200 years. It was the largest temple dedicated to the god Horus with the head of a falcon and Hathor. It is about 137 meters long and 79 meters wide.  The pylons are 36 meters high and consist of two towers, accessible from the inside and including a huge portal. Two black granite falcons still  guard the entrance to the temple. In ancient times, the temple was the center for festivities in honor of the sacred Horus. Its walls are not only beautifully decorated, but they are also a rich source for historians and archaeologists as they provide complete information about the construction of the temple, as well as about the religion and myths of the Greco-Roman period.
