Your tour will begin with a visit to the ruins of the magnificent monastery of St. Simeon. The monastery is built on a hill on two rocky terraces near the Nile and was named after St. Simeon (Anba Simaa), about whom nothing is known.
The construction of the monastery began in 571 AD, and about 300 monks and hundreds of pilgrims who took part in the construction of the monastery settled on its three floors. The monastery was destroyed by the Muslim hordes in 1321. Later, the monks also left it. To date, only majestic ruins, some ancient frescoes, a basilica of the early 9th century, part of the main building and a few caves cut into the rocks have been preserved.
After the tour, our driver will take you back to your hotel in Aswan.
