Excursion to Siwa Oasis from the port of Alexandria

We will meet you at your cruise at the port of Alexandria; You will recognize our driver by the sign with your name in his hands.

It will take you to  the Siwa Oasis. It is an isolated area, about 80 km long and 2 to 20 km wide, inhabited mainly by Berbers who speak their native language. Siwa is a green area with numerous date palms, olive trees and fruit trees. On its territory there are lakes and springs, as well as some places,  of archaeological and historical value.

First of all, you will see the ruins  of Shali, the old part of Siv, the labyrinths of mud-brick houses that once made it impossible for raiders to escape, since it is not easy to find a way out in someone else’s territory. An indescribable feeling overwhelms you as you walk through this abandoned area and get to know another culture.

Then you will visit Gebel al-Mawta,  the Mountain of the Dead, the old necropolis of Siwa, where there are a large number of tombs from the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. You will be surprised by beautiful paintings, as well as well-preserved mummies.

Next, you will visit the ruins  of the Temple of the Oracle or Amun, the most important ancient Egyptian deity, who was supposed to answer the questions of the questioners through the oracle. This oracle was one of the most famous and significant in the ancient world. It is assumed that Alexander the Great himself visited him to get an answer to his question of whether he was the son of God, and of course received the affirmative desired answer. From the main temple of Amun you will go to the temple of um UbaidUnfortunately, only one wall remains, as it was blown up by order of the Ottoman Governor to obtain building material for his house.

Then head to Cleopatra’s Baths, a pool where water is supplied from the hot spring of the mountains. Be sure to take a dip and relax. And a delicious lunch won’t hurt either!

You will enjoy traveling by jeep on the Great Sand Sea that surrounds Siwa, with its large sand dunes formed by the wind. There are also numerous fossils, including petrified trees. On the way back, you will visit Bir Wahid, a hot spring among the greenery of palm trees, where you can swim. A few meters away there is a small lake surrounded by sand dunes,  where you will find a beautiful sunset.

In the evening you will return to your cruise at the port of Alexandria.
